The Megger MIT525/2 Advanced 5kV Insulation Resistance Tester is built for professionals who require precision, reliability, and intelligent data handling in high-voltage environments. As part of Megger’s Advanced range, the MIT525/2 is perfect for predictive maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting of critical electrical assets such as transformers, switchgear, motors, generators, bushings, and high-voltage cables.
The MIT525/2 is ideal for testing demanding applications, offers selectable test voltages from 250V to 5000V and measures insulation resistance from 10kΩ to 15TΩ with high accuracy (±5% up to 1 TΩ at 5kV). It supports advanced diagnostic modes including IR(t), Polarisation Index (PI), Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR), Dielectric Discharge (DD), Stepped Voltage (SV), Ramp Test, and Megger’s patented PI predictor (Plp), which estimates PI values early in the test to save time. The RE>Act mode measures reabsorption current to prevent false pass/fail results, improving the reliability of insulation assessments.
The Advanced range also introduces enhanced noise immunity, allowing the MIT525/2 to operate effectively in power distribution environments with up to 6mA of interference current. It also offers the ability to increase or decrease output current, giving users greater control over test conditions. These features make it especially suitable for environments with high electrical noise or complex insulation systems.
The MIT525/2 supports both USB and Bluetooth® LE interfaces, making it easy for users to transfer data to Megger’s CertSuite Asset Lite mobile app or PowerDB software. These features allows them to record, store, and report test results for compliance and long-term asset monitoring while real-time data streaming via USB or Bluetooth allows for remote viewing and analysis, adding convenience and flexibility to workflows.
With user experience in mind, the MIT525/2 has an intuitive interface that features dual rotary switches and a large, high-contrast backlit display where users can view multiple measurement parameters at the same time in any lighting, and a graphical quick-start guide printed inside the lid to assist first-time users. The analogue arc display provides visual feedback of insulation resistance values, which improves interpretability during testing.
Safety is key when it comes to the design of the MIT525/2 as it carries a CAT IV 600V safety rating and is certified to operate at altitudes of up to 3000 meters. It comes with a five-tier voltage warning system that alerts users of hazardous conditions, while automatic capacitive discharge and voltage detection ensure safe handling post-test. The MIT525/2 comes in a dual-case construction that includes a rugged outer shell to protect against drops and a fire-retardant inner case for added safety. Plus, with a IP65 rating (lid closed), the instruments is protected against moisture and dust ingress during transport and storage. Removable lids with Velcro-on pouches keep accessories secure and accessible, while also improving access to terminals during testing.
The MIT525/2 is powered by long-lasting 10.8V, 5.2Ah lithium-ion rechargeable battery which provides up to 6 hours of continuous testing at 5kV with a 100MΩ load. A 30-minute quick charge offers approximately one hour of operation, and the unit can also be powered directly from AC mains when needed.
